Float Fishing

Bottom ledgering with bolt-rigs or quiver-tip rigs is an exhilarating way to catch carp even in tough conditions on big rivers and along the wave-pounded shorelines of sprawling lakes.

But, for me, few things in sport fishing are so delightfully disconcerting as allowing myself to become gently hypnotized by the lazy sway of a delicate waggler poking up from the surface of a quiet summer pond then having the float bounce and disappear as a big carp down below takes off with a single kernel of sweet corn pinned in the corner of its mouth by a tiny, fine-wire hook!

Float fishing is actually a deadly way to take carp in myriad situations including drift presentations in rivers and streams with ultra-light lines and tackle. This chapter looks at finesse float tactics and a range of excellent terminal rig set-ups.
